Thank you for the comments and feedback. There are certainly as many or more whites in this nation living off of "The System" as black and Hispanics, and there were quite a number of whites that voted for Obama. I am one of them. I am a moderate independent and I do not consider Obama to be a radical liberal.
My idea of the word is that it is demeaning and hateful, but I believe she and anyone else has the right to say whatever they like. Just don't start whining that your 1st Amendment rights are violated because you draw a crowd of opposition. That is cowardice.
I am white and was raised in a time when my friends, who were black teens, used the word freely with one another. We used the word openly, not to be demeaning, but as slang and it was acceptance by the black friends that I could say it and they knew it was not meant in a demeaning way. I loved those guys and they loved me. You could not tangle with one without tangling with us all. We played ball together, slept over at each others house, ate together. To this day, 30 years after high school, they are still my friends and they never shook the use of the word. They call me up and that is the first thing they call me.
I teach my kids that times are different now and it is never acceptable to use the word, but I still feel any American has the right to say the word, they just have to accept the rebuttals and not make a spectacle out of those that are offended when they do. There are circles where the word is acceptable to me, as I have said before, with some of my lifelong friends. Some of these guys are retired soldiers, retired athletes, engineers converted to Islam, but that circle has more love than most friendships. I would ever use the word in front of my white friends lest they think I was prejudiced and that I would accept them using the word in a demeaning way. It's a tough era for me. I am Italian. Many of my Italian friends call me WOP, Guinea, Dago, Chuche. Those words coming from a non-Italian would anger me or draw fire from me, but my Italian friends and I use the words as a symbol of what our heritage is and it is a way we express our solidarity and love for one another. Is it juvenille? Certainly could be construed that way, but, many black men use the N word and call one another by that name as a gesture of where they have come from in their own struggle.
I'm glad Laura is leaving the air. Having a European use the word the way she did was obviously demeaning and she meant no love using it.

It is true that most people in the Ghetto's of America are black or latino.
Most black people are MIDDLE CLASS and yes, democrats, (But not all) Just like you said.
The majority of welfare recipients are white Americans. (There are more whites in this country than blacks).

The black vote alone could not get Obama into office.

I feel that some white people who are upset with our current president often focus on the blacks that voted for him. Dr. Laura did this. I actually respected her for a long time. But it wasn't the N word that bothered me. It was the fact that she
was spewing her own beef. The woman did not call to discuss that. Dr. Laura frequently went there when ever a black person would call about a racial issue, I've heard it before. Yes the word is wrong and should not be used but their was no reason for her to go on this rant. That's not what the woman called about. The fact that she decided to release her frustration with the black community on this woman who is also black is wrong. You can't blame the black community for something some black people do any more than you can blame ALL white people for something ignorant a white person does. All too often though, this happens. I'm black, I don't use the word. No one in my family uses the word and I don't like hearing it. So no, not every black can say the word because not every black will let themselves use it morally or ethically. Their are all different kinds of black people just like white right.? What I want to know is why do some white people feel they have the RIGHT to use the word just because someone else uses it? Why do they even WANT to use the word?! This is nonsense! One shouldn't base what's morally right on what they see others do or not do. The fact is even though it's wrong, black people who use it are sometimes ignorant but when white people use it, it is out of contempt and condescending. Why else would they WANT to use it? What? Do they feel left out? Hypocrisy is coating an apology with "I was trying to make a philosophical point". It makes no sense That's like you coming to me asking me to help you cook dinner and I go off about how if my ancestors were not enslaved and made to cook for free I would want to help you. While it may or may not be true, there is no need to argue that...it's not what you came to me for. That is what she did, and THAT is wrong...it shows she has a much deeper underlying issue with black people.
